3 Solubility It is miscible with water and with ethanol (95%); slightly soluble in acetone; practically insoluble in ether and in fixed oils and volatile oils.
4 Appearance of solution The solution is clear and colourless.
5 Acidity or alkalinity The solution is colourless and not more than 0.2 ml of 0.1 M sodium hydroxide is required to produce a pink colour.
6 Chlorides Not more than 10 ppm.
7 Aldehydes Not more than 10 ppm.
8 Esters Not less than 8.0 ml of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid is required to decolourise the solution.
9 Refractive index Between 1.449 to 1.455.
10 Halogenated compounds Not more than 35 ppm.
11 Ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and related substances Specified test.
